Mike Bachman, affectionately dubbed “Bachman” by peers, is Boomi’s Principal Architect for Emerging Technology. With over two decades of expertise, he has assisted executives and their teams in overcoming complex obstacles through innovative tech solutions. Bachman’s background encompasses AI R&D, data pipeline development, infrastructure planning, application integration, performance analysis, and the exploration of nascent technologies.

Currently, he delves into pioneering and groundbreaking innovations, applying them to diverse use cases and patterns, ultimately crafting inventive problem-solving approaches. Bachman’s goals extend to aiding businesses in leveraging cutting-edge advancements for addressing social and environmental concerns. A published author, voracious learner, and technology thinker, he revels in acquiring languages, indulging in literature, running, tuning into podcasts, embarking on hikes, and savoring travel adventures. Dr. Irene Rombel, CEO, President and Co-Founder, BioCurie

Dr. Irene Rombel is the CEO, President and Co-Founder of BioCurie, a TechBio startup company that is harnessing AI to transform the process development and manufacturing of cell and gene therapies. She is deeply committed to transforming great science and technology into disruptive products that will help patients and society, while creating shareholder value. Dr. Rombel is an industry veteran and entrepreneur with 25+ years of leadership experience in science and business, spanning biotechnology, big pharma, consulting, investing, and academia. Prior to founding BioCurie, she was Chief of Staff, Research, at Spark Therapeutics, a leading gene therapy company, and Senior Director of Strategy and External Innovation at Janssen, J&J. Irene was previously the Founder and President of Biomedical Intelligence LLC, a life science consulting company, and a biotech hedge fund analyst. Dr. Rombel started her career in academia as an Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in the Center for Biomedical Inventions, where she conducted cutting-edge research on DNA vaccines, synthetic biology, and cell-specific targeting. Prior to her faculty position, she was a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley and UC Davis, where her research on transcriptional regulation made fundamental scientific contributions to the understanding of promoter-enhancer control of gene expression. Dr. Rombel has advised and mentored many start-up companies over the past 20+ years, serving as a JPAL for the J&J JLABS Incubator companies, and as a Scientific Advisory Board member of the North Texas Enterprise Center (a life science incubator). She is on Columbia University’s Translational Therapeutics Accelerator Steering Committee and the Columbia University Irving Cancer Drug Discovery Advisory Board.

Dr. Rombel received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Biochemistry with a double major in Microbiology from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and her MBA from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. Irene is also a registered U.S. Patent Agent with the USPTO.


Elzar Camper, Managing Director, CBIZ

Elzar is a Managing Director for the CBIZ Pivot Point Security team within CBIZ Risk & Advisory Services. He has 20 years of experience as a global security leader and advisor to U.S. ambassadors, foreign governments, and executive leadership. He brings a wide range of consulting, program management, and international cyber and physical security experience across multiple sectors.

Prior to joining CBIZ Pivot Point Security, Elzar held the position of Global Head of Protective Service at SAP and spent 12 years as a U.S. Diplomat and Federal Law Enforcement Official with the U.S. Department of State. In his tenure with the Department, he led global cyber insider threat initiatives, counterterror, and counterespionage operations and investigations, as well as information security programs at multiple U.S. embassies and consulates.

Elzar is responsible for the oversight and delivery of consulting services to include vCISO engagements, threat modeling, risk and vulnerability assessments, application and network penetration testing, cloud security, third-party risk management, M&A Due Diligence Assessments, DevSecOps, compliance, privacy, and regulatory advisory services.


Dr. Matthew C. Stamm, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Drexel University

Dr. Matthew C. Stamm is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University, which he joined in the Fall of 2013. He leads the Multimedia and Information Security Lab (MISL), where he and his team develop AI techniques to detect fake and manipulated media such as deepfakes, AI generated images, and photoshopped forgeries. In addition to his academic work, he has helped authenticate media used in national news stories for the New York Times, Reuters, AFP, PolitiFact, and several other organizations.

Dr. Stamm is the recipient of several awards for his research, including Drexel University’s 2023 Provost’s Award for Outstanding Mid-Career Scholarly Achievement, the University of Maryland’s 2023 Alumni Excellence Award for Research, and an NSF CAREER Award. In 2021, he was named one of Popular Science Magazine’s Brilliant 10 - its annual list of the “10 most innovative up-and-coming minds in science.” He served as an elected member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society’s Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee from 2018-2020, and as General Chair of the 2017 ACM Workshop on Information Hiding and Multimedia Security. Dr. Stamm’s research has been supported by several sponsors, including the National Science Foundation, DARPA, the Army Research Office, the Defense Forensic Science Center, and US Special Operations Command. He earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland College Park, where he was awarded the Dean’s Doctoral Research Award from the A. James Clark School of Engineering for his Ph.D. thesis.


Peter Wakiyama, Partner, Troutman Pepper

Peter advises clients in all areas of intellectual property, including strategy, portfolio development, registration, commercialization, and enforcement. He is increasingly advising clients at the intersection of intellectual property, technology, and data, including data privacy and security. His tech background spans more than three decades, and includes experience as a hands-on technologist in the federal government contracting and private sectors; working with emerging technologies, entrepreneurs and other technology industry professionals; and advising clients on a broad range of technology legal matters. Peter is a trusted resource who helps his clients navigate complex intellectual property and technology matters amid the evolving challenges brought by technology and data in transactions and in day-to-day business operations. He is at the forefront of counseling clients on a wide range of artificial intelligence (AI)-related matters, including the development, adoption, and use of AI tools; emerging AI intellectual property and licensing issues; and transactions that involve AI intellectual property and data assets used to train AI models.

Peter advises clients across all major sectors, including e-commerce, IT services, retail, financial services/fintech, telecommunications, entertainment, health care/digital health, real estate, manufacturing, food and beverage, hospitality, and social media. Clients rely on him for all aspects of technology and IP transactions, such as development, licensing, asset purchases, strategic alliances, and SaaS; IP strategy, protection, enforcement, and commercialization; and data protection, privacy, and security. Peter develops strategies for clients around issues related to new-to-market and emerging technologies. He advises on the effective use of data and helps clients mitigate the potential risks associated with the commercialization of data assets. In addition to his IP and technology practices, Peter regularly assists clients with their assessment of, and compliance with, federal and state privacy and security laws, including CAN-SPAM, COPPA, TCPA, FTCA, GLBA, HIPAA, and GDPR; privacy policies, terms of use, information security policies, and data governance agreements, as well as data privacy and security due diligence, and M&A support.
