About our speakers:

Jennifer Kurtz, Technology Executive (Moderator)

Jennifer Kurtz is a technology executive with more than 20 years of strategy, development, and execution experience bringing to market enterprise B2B software solutions for both SaaS and on-premise. As a CTO, Jennifer brings technical depth and people leadership prowess to deliver world-class software products. Jennifer has proven experience building high performing engineering teams that can execute against product and technology strategies. As part of delivering solutions, Jennifer places a focus on agile development processes, team topologies and organizational structure, application and operational security, automation for infrastructure and testing, and the value of ownership of the solution by all of engineering. Most recently, Jennifer served as CTO at Infinite Blue and prior served as CTO at Vertex, Inc. She also held architecture and engineering positions at Vertex, Inc., Verizon, and Platinum Technology (now Broadcom).


Grant Pate, Global Head, Cyber Security Operations, Vanguard

Grant is currently the Global Head of the Vanguard Cyber Security Operations and the Insider Threat program. In his current role Grant is responsible for monitoring, assessing and defending Vanguard from all cyber and internal threats. Grant is a security professional with more than 30 years of experience in Information Security and the Security Operations field.

Before Joining Vanguard and after serving in the United States Marine Corps’ Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Intelligence Group, Grant worked as a Forward Observing Battlefield Intelligence Analyst. He joined Unisys Corporation to facilitate the information security program for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania critical support agencies data center located in Harrisburg Pa. He then joined Computer Sciences Corporation as the Compliance and Risk Executive for the Global Healthcare Security outsourcing division overseeing all security programs outsourced to United States Healthcare clients. Designing, transitioning, and operating programs that protect healthcare data Grant then joined Vanguard where he now manages the Security Operations Center. Grant is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Information Security Manager and is certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls. Grant completed his bachelor degree at Pennsylvania State University.


Michelle DeLiberty, Managing Director/ Cyber Security, Accenture

Michelle DeLiberty leads Accenture’s North America Security Practice for the Products Industry Group, covering Life Sciences, Consumer Goods & Services, Retail, A&D, Automotive, Industrial and Travel. With over 20 years consulting experience. Michelle advises C-Suite, business and security stakeholders to establish cyber security strategies for security transformations, operations, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, as well as, securing digital transformation programs. Michelle has led large scale M&A security programs and engagements covering strategy, implementation and operations across, cyber defense, risk management, digital identity, application security and OT / industrial control systems and assets.

Michelle has worked closely with some of the worlds largest companies to establish and transform their cyber security programs, develop strategies and capabilities to address unique cybersecurity and risk management challenges while operating at the speed of business.

Michelle graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Information Science & Technology. Michelle also completed LEADERSHIP Philadelphia’s CORE Program in 2020 and is a certified Project Management Professional.


Sean Toolan, Vice President- Cyber Risk & Compliance Solutions, Layer 8

Sean Toolan specializes in advising public and private organizations on cybersecurity strategy, risk management, compliance, and threat defense. Prior to joining Layer 8, he served in leadership roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and FireEye Mandiant working on cyber defense operations, technology strategy, cyber risk management, compliance, and security governance. He started his career in the Marine Corps supporting operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Central America, as well as roles supporting technology research and development and cybersecurity. Sean is actively involved with the Semper Fi & America’s Fund, Independence Historic Trust, and several other civic and charitable organizations. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a B.S. in Information Technology from the U.S. Naval Academy. Sean has been honored with the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation Semper Fidelis Award, the Philadelphia Business Journal “Veteran of Influence” Award, and PwC Philadelphia’s Integrity Award.


Tom Young, Founder, DataCrest

Tom is the founder of DataCrest and a +20 year commercial insurance industry veteran.

Tom is a multi-business entrepreneur and worked at two MGAs before starting and selling his own agency. Previously to launching DataCrest he was a producer/partner at Lockton. He built his agency’s client base from the ground up by demonstrating value through innovative services rather than pricing. His positive “there is always a way” attitude fuels his relentless client advocate efforts and the growth of DataCrest. Tom envisioned a better way than the antiquated industry "deal flow" and customer support that continually frustrated all involved. He identified that today's tech-savvy insurance professionals and insureds are ready for innovation. Tom created DataCrest with a combination of industry knowledge and tech thought-leaders to improve the insurance buying and selling experience for all.

Tom graduated from Drexel University with a finance degree. He was a varsity lacrosse player earning all-conference academic honors. He resides in Villanova, PA and is blessed with his wife and three children. He enjoys rooting for Philly sports with his kids, golf, lacrosse, racket sports, triathlons, and carpentry.
